About Simran Kaur

Simran Kaur, 15, will be a high school sophomore in California this fall. She first started doing raag kirtan at the age of 8 and has really enjoyed doing it since then. She first started learning raag kirtan on the harmonium, but later used her western music knowledge to do it on the violin and piano as well without any help or training. Simran would like to deepen her knowledge of raag kirtan and Gurmat sangeet so she can share it with others. Simran is very interested in using her knowledge and experience in Gurmat sangeet and Western music to make Gurmat sangeet accessible to those who haven't had the opportunity to learn Gurmeet sangeet.

About my project

Musifyer - A Music Notes Translator App

Musifyer is a web app that translates Indian Classical compositions into Western Sheet Music, as well as two text formats. This web app combines concepts of both Gurmat Sangeet as well as Western Music to combine the two into a translator app. In addition, Musifyer has the following features: the ability to take in multi-line compositions, the taal it was written in, and the scale the user would like it translated to. Musifyer accommodates both shudh and vakrit surs of the Mandar, Madhyam, and Taar Saptaks and lets you write compositions with dusra jaati (eighth notes) as well as chatsuri jaati (sixteenth notes).
