About my project

Exploring the historical context and central message of the nine Vaars associated with Dhunis

This paper analyzes the 9 Vaars associated with Dhunis, highlighting the historical context of the Dhunis and central message of the Vaars ascribed to them. By looking at the historical context of each Dhunis, it allows for a deeper understanding of the message Guru Ji is conveying. Each Vaar associated with a Dhuni is broken down into 4 segments: (1) The basic details about the Vaar – contributors, details about the raag its set to and the emotions evoked, (2) The historical context of the Dhuni, (3) The central message of the Vaar, and (4) The analysis of the Vaar as a whole, connecting the first three segments. This topic was chosen for the paper as there are not many resources readily available (especially in English) which look into exploring all 9 Vaars associated with Dhunis. It is only by understanding the meaning behind these Dhunis and its central message can we truly understand and appreciate what Guru Ji is trying to convey.
