Bilaval Partaal
This project highlights the shabad “ਮੋਹਨ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਹਾਵੈ ਹਾਰ ਕਜਰ ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਭਰਨ ਕੀਨੇ ॥ ਉਡੀਨੀ ਉਡੀਨੀ ਉਡੀਨੀ ॥ ਕਬ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥”. Written by Guru Arjan dev ji on ang 830, the central conflict is presented in the first rahao of this shabad highlighting the grief of separation from Vaheguru. As the theme of finding Vaheguru and consequently extinguishing the grief is explored in the first and second padha, it becomes apparent that the way to finding Vaheguru is to look within; this leads to the resolution presented in the second rahao where the theme transitions from grief of separation to the joy of union. The first rahao in this partial is in deepchandi, a taal of 14 beats. The first padha is in the taal Rupak (7 beats), and the second padha in chartaal ki swari (11 beats). Finally the second rahao is composed in teentaal (16 beats). This shabad is written in Raag Bilaval, which is a joyful raag; this project attempts to utilize the raag as a tool to convey the themes expressed within this shabad.
