About Sahiba Kaur
Sahiba Kaur, 16, is a rising junior who is deeply passionate about Gurmat Sangeet. Her learning journey started when she was little, but has gotten more serious in the past few years. She is an avid participant in the Hemkunt Competition and has qualified and won awards for speech at the international level. Aside from this, she started learning rabab last Summer and hopes to continue improving.
About my project
Gurlingo: Android and iOS App
Gurlingo is an app developed through the Gurmat Sangeet Research Internship, designed to help users strengthen their understanding of two fundamental concepts in Gurmat Sangeet: Sur (musical notes) and Raag (melodic frameworks). Gurlingo will be available for free on Apple App Store and Google Play Store. The first release has three main features: a Scale Selection feature, Sur Training, and Raag Training. The Scale Selection feature allows users to customize their learning experience by choosing their preferred scale: G# or C#. The Sur Training learning track focuses on ear training and sur identification through quizzes with practice exercises. The Raag Training learning track introduces a basic overview of the 31 Shudh Raags from Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, and progresses to focused training on 10 select raags: Bilaval, Gond, Basant, Kalyan, Maru, Shree, Todi, Sarang, Malhar, and Bhairo.
